Home Remedies for Acne

Acne is a disease that is virtually faced by everyone and hence is referred to as a common disease. Acne is exemplified by pimples on the chest, face and back. Acne can occur regardless of the age, but is predominant among adolescents. The highest ratio of acne sufferers is in the ages of twelve and twenty five. Acne occurs mainly due to the pores of the skin getting clogged with oil, bacteria and dead skin cells. This is an ailment of the sebaceous glands that lies beneath the skin surface. These glands produce oil known as sebum that keeps the skin moist. The puberty stage is when the sex hormones turn out to be active and the excessive sebum results in dead skin or a hard plug. Acne becomes serious when bacteria invade the blocked pores.

Causes of Acne

The cause of acne is unknown; however various risk factors that have been identified are age, cosmetics, disease, diet, drugs, environment, gender, heredity, hormonal changes, stress, and personal hygiene. Teenagers are likely to develop acne because of the sex hormones effect. Hair sprays and make-up items contain oils that make acne worse. Hormonal disorders increase the severity in girls. Acne is a result of certain foods as well. Acne results due to drugs such as antibiotics, anabolic steroids, tranquilizers and certain drugs. Acne worsens when it gets exposed to greases, oils, and pollution. Boys have the tendency of developing acne more than girls. Acne is common in some families. Acne flares up during pregnancy, menopause and menstruation due to hormonal changes. Emotional stress also contributes to acne. Strong soaps and picking pimples can worsen the pimples. Acne is not apparently obvious. But the inflamed pores cause pain. The troubling aspect in acne is the scarring. Though it is not very obvious, people become sensitive owing to their appearance, especially the teenagers.

Acne can be prevented by gently washing once or twice, avoiding rough cleansers, using light makeup, frequently going for hair shampoo, eating balanced diet, giving limited exposure to sun, reducing stress and avoiding picking of pimples.

Acne calls for ingredients found in households. Some of the effective home remedies for acne are applying ice on inflamed areas.

Toothpaste also is effective like ice. It should be applied at night and washed in the morning. This makes pimples less noticeable.

Applying ground nutmeg blend with milk opens the pores thereby cleaning the dirt.

Honey and cinnamon paste also get rids of acne as honey traps the dirt and paste washes it off. Ground radish seeds with water eliminate the stubborn blackheads.

Regular washing of your face is essential. Oatmeal can be used as soothing scrub. Washing your face with warm salt water helps in getting rid of dirt and oil.

Applying garlic juice on the pimple will leave no blemish on your face. Orange peel paste also gives identical results.

Lime juice, mint juice eliminates pimples, skin infections and eczema.

Fenugreek leaves paste improves the skin health and to prevent pimples, wrinkles and blackheads.

Paste of fruits as well as vegetables such as tomato, papaya or cucumber improves the health of the skin and blocks the breakouts.

1. Do not use scrub that contains chemicals. You can prepare scrub on your home by mixing sea salt and honey. This one is best for acne.
2. Crush a ripe papaya and mix few drops of honey with it. Rub this paste on the acne affected skin for 10 minutes and then wash off. This is very effective remedy for acne.
3. Mix corn flour and curd together. Apply the paste over the affected area to prevent acne and pimples.
