What is Bed Sores?
Usually Bed sores are known as pressure sores or pressure boils, skin ulcer, skin injury or swelling. It is caused due to protracted pressure on any part of human body. Generally it occur among physically handicapped, paralyzed or completely bed ridden patients because they can not move their body parts and can not change their position frequently for a long duration and constant pressure on some specific parts of body lead to bed sore or pressure sore. Mostly it affects bony or skeletal areas such as vertebrae , ankles, knees, head, shoulders, hip bone area, lower back, heels etc. In earlier stage bed sores can be treated effectively by regular dressings, but it is very difficult to treat while bedsores become large and deep. At that time it needed plastic surgery. Sometimes the bed ridden patients are loss their mental ability.
Causes of Bed Sores
Bed sores are highly dangerous diseases specially found in bony area of body. Some common causes of Bed sores or Pressure sores are due to lying in a same position for longer period, various infections, heart problem, dehydration or poor nutrition, poor blood circulation, spinal cord injury, Undernourishment, Flabbiness, some bed ridden disease like paralysis or stillness, Anemia or decreased hemoglobin. Muscle loss or weakness from lack of use, incapable to handle bladder or bowel movement.
Symptoms of Bed Sores
The main symptoms of bed sores can be analyzed by four different stages such as by pressing darkened or mottled skin it does not turn in to white, sores or scratch begin to appear, skin loss extends to underlying tissue and skin loss extends beyond the underlying tissue to the muscle and the bone. Also it indicates some infections in bony areas, swelling or pus formation and mark on skin.
Home Remedies for Bed Sores
There some home remedies available for Bed Sores.
Eat extra protein or highly nutritious food to maintain healthy tissue.
Try to keep your skin clean and dry every time.
Try to change position every two hours by avoiding continuous pressure on any specific part of body.
Spray antiseptic powder like goldenseal on the affected area on every 4-5 hour.
Massage vitamin E oil all over the body. It is the best home remedy for bed sores.
Avoid meat and include fiber food for diet.
Make a mixture of witch hazel, myrrh, turmeric root and goldenseal and wash the sores with that mixture at least two to four times a day. I is one of the successful treatment for bed sores.
Apply zinc oxide ointment, Aloe Vera, Wheat germ oil or comfrey on the affected area. It will work well.
