Not only does it work as a pain reliever, but it is also believed that onions will act as an antiseptic, which is why they work as a home remedy for toothaches. Keep in mind that raw garlic is known to work the same exact way.

Ice Pack

One home remedy for toothache that people often forget about is an ice pack. The cold from the ice will cause your mouth to experience a numbing sensation, which will ultimately provide you with pain relief. Another option that is known to be even more effective is a bag of frozen peas, since they will conform to your jaw.
