Home Remedies for Earache

Earache is a condition that is predominant in children than in adults. The fungi and bacteria invade the ear region resulting in a condition called earache. Earache is a non communicable disease as it cannot be transmitted from the patient to others unlike fever or flu that is highly communicable. Earache can be caused either in the regions of the middle or the external ear. It has been observed that the occurrence of earache is frequent during the night than during the daytime. The reason for this phenomenon is that when a person lies down the usage of the throat muscles are halted. As a result of this halting, the Eustachian tube gets more congested ultimately resulting in earache.

Causes of Earache

The exact cause of earache is the obstruction in the Eustachian tube. The Eustachian tube equalizes the atmospheric pressure on both the sides of the eardrum. The occurrence and treatment of earache were known from ancient times, since there are records of ayurvedic treatments for earache. Swimming, cold, dust particles, improper diet, allergies, sinus and unrest are all causes of earache. Though there are various types of earaches, the major symptoms are quite similar. Ear pain, redness, ear itching, hearing problems, discharge of a certain liquid from the ear, giddiness and fever are the prominent symptoms of earache.

Home Remedies for Earache

There are numerous remedies for curing earaches. In spite of the fact that paying a visit to the doctor is the best option available to cure any disease, the majority of the public prefer home remedies largely due to the fact that they are effective (both in terms of cost wise and also curing earache).

The most prominent cure for curing earache is by applying various juices like garlic juice, holy basil juice and mango leaves juice to the region of infection.

Utilizing pads to apply slight heat over the infected ear gives immense relief from pain.

A warm cloth with boiled pieces of garlic or warm pieces of onion gives a lot of comfort from earache.

Applying olive oil in minute quantities works wonders as it clears the earwax in the Eustachian tube and clears it from any other obstruction. This property also extends to mineral oils, alcohol and hydrogen peroxide.

4 or 5 drops of a heated mixture of a tablespoonful of sesame oil mixed with half a clove of garlic is applied to the infected ear and it works miracles.

A mixture of licorice warmed with ghee guarantees relief from earache when applied externally around the ear.

Leaves of castor plant introduced in warm sesame oil dabbed around the ears works wonders if the mixture is gently massaged after applying it.

The oil of Bishop's weed mixed with 3x volume of sesame oil warmed on a flame and dripped 4 drops in a ear clears the obstructions sufficiently

A few cloves of garlic burnt in some linseed oil and filtered is stored in a bottle. This oil is to be applied on the ears twice daily, the first time in the morning and the second time in the evening.

Castor oil is also very effective for earache. Warm the castor oil and put 2 drops in the infected eyes, then place a cotton ball on the ear. Do this process at least twice a day for few days. Also you can heat the mustard oil by putting garlic and clove, now extract the oil and put it on your ear to get instant relief.
