Home Remedies for Influenza

Influenza is an infectious disease, characterized by an unexpected beginning, fever and general aches and pains, which usually occurs in epidemics and pandemics.

Influenza Causes

Influenza is caused by three types of Influenza virus - types A, B, and C. Type A causes the most severe disease. Influenza occur worldwide involving millions of cases, or it may appear sporadically in a single community. Exposure to cold or dampness, or when the body is weakened by disease or by following poor health habits, makes one more susceptible to the Influenza virus. Common causes of Influenza are faulty diet, unhealthy way of living, lack of exercise, stress, living in stuffy rooms.

Symptoms of Influenza

Symptoms of Influenza is usually a chilly feeling, various muscular aches and pains, backache, poor appetite, ringing in the ears, dizziness, cough, sometimes a sore throat, stuffiness, and hoarseness. Headache is frequent. The fever may be more severe in the evening. Influenza starts rapidly and lasts for seven to ten days. The real danger of Influenza is that if it is not checked by proper treatment, complications may set in. Pneumonia is one of the most frequent complications, and it may prove fatal unless treated vigorously. Patients who already have heart or lung disease or are pregnant are particularly prone to develop viral pneumonia with Influenza. After an attack of Influenza, the system should be built up with good nourishing foods.

Home Remedies for Influenza

Take black pepper half a teaspoonful, mix with two teaspoonful of honey and half a teaspoonful of juice of ginger should be consumed thrice a day. This is very helpful in initial stages of the Influenza.

Prepare a paste of garlic, mix it with milk, and add a few grains of salt. Apply the resultant paste on the forehead till it dries up or gives relief.

Take a cinnamon one gram, cloves ten grams and ginger thirty grams. Boil in one cup of water for fifteen minutes. Consume these decoction two ounces every three hours. This is very good for influenza.

One teaspoonful of pure turmeric powder or paste should be mixed in warm milk and consumed three times a day.

Take equal amounts of onion juice and honey consume three to four times daily for good relief from Influenza.

Consume grapefruit juice daily.

Lot of best rest should be taken.

Drink plenty of water daily.

Take one mug full of very hot water add a little eucalyptus oil then cover with a towel without allowing air inside. Inhale the vapor. After inhaling vapor you should not come outside in open air. Close all the doors and windows cover with a blanket and lie down. This gives a lot of relief from cold, cough and throat infections. This is very powerful home remedy for Influenza.

Prepare paste with the leaves of leucas aspera and smear it on the forehead.

Apply a paste made of coriander leaves on the forehead.

Place a pad of wet cloth on the forehead, or a cloth soaked in vinegar.
